Join us for an exciting new Conducting Professional Development event run by the Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) in collaboration with ABODA NSW. The program will be facilitated by SYO Head of Orchestral Training James Pensini and presenters will include Stephen Williams, Elizabeth Scott and Jeremey Woolstenhulme (appears courtesy of Neil A Kjos Music Company).
Specifically targeted at Conductors working in a school and/or community situation, participants will:
- Complete the ABODA Level 1 conducting accreditation
- Shadow SYO conductors and their ensembles (String Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra)
- Conduct a string ensemble of senior SYO players
- Work with a leading piano accompanist to refine gestural communication
- Observe the SYO HSC Winter School focused on HSC Performance (optional)
- Experience first-hand “the SYO way” of Orchestral Training
- Meet and network with likeminded colleagues

About the ABODA NSW Level 1 accreditation:
This practical course is designed for musicians studying at a tertiary level or who are starting out on their instrumental conducting careers, looking to learn or fine-tune basic conducting and rehearsal techniques. Suitable for musicians who have never conducted before through to those who have found themselves conducting ensembles but have had little to no formal conducting training. Topics to be covered include conducting mechanics (simple and compound time signatures, pauses, tempo changes etc.), cueing, score preparation and rehearsal techniques.
