What we do

Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) is one of Australia’s leading youth music organisations, shaping the lives of young musicians through outstanding orchestral training and performance opportunities. For more than 50 years, SYO has championed youth-led programming and inclusive access, creating clear pathways for aspiring musicians across New South Wales—from their first notes to pre-professional excellence.

The SYO approach

Youth-centered approach

At the heart of SYO’s mission, young voices lead and shape every program, partnership, and initiative, ensuring an authentic, youth-driven culture in Australian orchestral music.

Sustainability and innovation

We envision a sustainable orchestral community enriched by diversity and collaboration. Amplifying First Nations voices and perspectives is integral to evolving the orchestral landscape in a way that reflects Australia’s rich cultural heritage.

Inclusivity and access

We are committed to breaking barriers and creating inclusive pathways. Through partnerships with community organisations, educational institutions, and industry leaders, SYO strives to foster a sense of belonging for all young musicians, both on and off the stage.

Regional and Western Sydney engagement

We are expanding opportunities for young musicians across Regional NSW and Western Sydney, providing comprehensive music education and performance platforms that strengthen community bonds.
