Sandi Oh

Sandi Oh returned to SYO as a conductor 20 years after she first joined the SYO family prior to the SYO Philharmonic tour to Tasmania in 2000 as a musician. This full circle return to an organisation that proved formative both musically and socially is a musical homecoming for Sandi.

Following her entrance into SYO life, Sandi went on to play in SYO (flagship) for several years, participating in a multitude of domestic tours, and international tours to Spain/Portugal, and Italy.

Sandi completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) and Bachelor of Arts at UNSW studying violin under Evan Elsley. Since completing her study she has spent many years playing and teaching in Sydney. Sandi has influenced many young string players via her warm and effective violin teaching and extensive conducting of ensembles throughout Sydney schools.

Sandi currently holds the position of Coordinator of Strings at St Andrew’s Cathedral School, is an AMEB Strings Examiner, and writes music specifically for young string players.

Sydney Youth Orchestras acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work, rehearse, gather and perform; the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, the original storytellers of these lands where we learn and create music today. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and honour the continuation of the oldest music practice in the world.

Always Was, Always Will Be.
