Izzie Saliba

My name is Izzie, and I am 17 years old currently attending Saint Patricks College for Girls in Campbelltown and is attending the Sydney Conservatorium of Music next year February for a Bachelor of Music (Performance) on Classical Flute. I have been a part of SYO for 5 years first starting off in the Western Sydney Youth Orchestra in 2020 and then moving to Symphonic Woodwind Orchestra in 2024 on flute, SYO has given me multiple opportunities within tours, Sydney Festival concerts such as Encounter in 2020 and Taste of Spain in early January this year. I have been playing the flute for almost 11 years.

Other than playing the flute, I first started playing piano at age 3 and enjoys playing multiple other instruments like guitar and drums. I also play sports in my free time such as cricket, softball and swimming. Through my orchestral journey SYO has been a great opportunity for me to connect with multiple people around sydney and have made lifelong friendships and so much joy when I play music with other people creating sound. As one of SYO’s new advisory council members, I am so excited for new initiatives in the upcoming year and am excited to make SYO a better place for new and returning players to have the same amazing journey I have encountered. I am so incredibly honoured to be a part of this council serving the community of SYO.

Sydney Youth Orchestras acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work, rehearse, gather and perform; the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, the original storytellers of these lands where we learn and create music today. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and honour the continuation of the oldest music practice in the world.

Always Was, Always Will Be.
