SYO was founded as a single orchestra in 1973 by the visionary music educator and conductor, Peter Seymour. For almost half a century SYO, has grown to become a community of over 550 young musicians, aged 6-24, from all over Sydney and New South Wales.
Since 1973, SYO has championed excellence in music education and fostered a love of music in over 5,500 young musicians, contributing to the cultural identity of Sydney, Australia and the world.
Our Alumni continue to enrich our community through outstanding music performance, education and arts administration as well as excelling in business and corporate worlds.
