Tyler Wilkinson

Tyler Wilkinson is a versatile conductor, teacher, and trumpeter who currently holds a Bachelor of Music Performance in Classical Trumpet from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and a Master of Teaching (Secondary) from the University of Sydney. Throughout Tyler’s studies, he has performed professionally with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and has also attended a number of tours internationally to Italy, Denmark, and London as part of various auditioned Chamber Music scholarships. Tyler first joined SYO in 2011 as a member of SWO, and eventually made his way to be the Principal Trumpet of the SYO. Tyler attended the 2017 Sydney Youth Orchestra European Tour as Principal Trumpet, and he has also returned regularly as a Brass Tutor and Conductor for a number of SYO ensembles.

Upon commencing his university studies, Tyler also began teaching trumpet at a number of schools across Sydney, and soon began to also explore his passion for conducting, leading a range of large and small ensembles. Since the beginning of 2022, Tyler has been working full-time as the Head of Bands at The King’s School, overseeing a large portion of the co-curricular program in both the Preparatory and Senior Schools, and conducting many of the program’s ensembles including Wind Bands, Jazz Ensembles, and the Symphony Orchestra.

Sydney Youth Orchestras acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work, rehearse, gather and perform; the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, the original storytellers of these lands where we learn and create music today. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and honour the continuation of the oldest music practice in the world.

Always Was, Always Will Be.
