Making a Bequest
Let the music play on through making a bequest to the Sydney Youth Orchestras in your will.
John Speer was an exceptional musician whose lasting contribution shaped the musical journeys of countless young people in Sydney Youth Orchestra’s ensembles. In recognition of his legacy, our bequest fund has carried his name since 2017.
As a member of the John Speer Bequest Circle, you may choose to be acknowledged in concert programs and on our website. You’ll also receive invitations to exclusive open rehearsals and special events throughout the year.

As a musician, person and teacher, John was an incredible supporter of the Sydney Youth Orchestra, the Suzuki Association and youth music throughout Sydney.
John dedicated himself to teaching Suzuki Method violin to hundreds of young people, instilling them not only with a love and understanding of music but also self-esteem and belief in themselves as people.
Literally hundreds of John’s students were members of SYO in the 90s and early 2000’s, with an average of 50 students per year.
John passed away on 31 March 2004, after a long battle with cancer, throughout which he continued teaching and inspiring many young people.

Please consult your legal adviser when remembering SYO in your will. We ask that you consider giving a general-purpose bequest to ensure your gift is directed where it is most needed within the organisation to ensure the financial security of SYO.
