Vale Brian Buggy OAM – Conductor Emeritus, Sydney Youth Orchestras

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Buggy OAM, Conductor Emeritus, Sydney Youth Orchestras. Through a life dedicated to music and education, his legacy extends across Australia and around the world, living on through the many thousands of young people impacted by his work.

Sydney Youth Orchestras was blessed to have Brian lead the SYO Philharmonic for 14 years, becoming our first Conductor Emeritus in 2021. Brian will be remembered for his generosity, wit, vast musical knowledge, and passion for teaching, along with a love of a good piece of cake and a chat.

Most significantly, he adored his family and was a devoted grandfather, father, and husband. We offer our heartfelt condolences to them at this sad time.

To echo his favourite farewell;
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be ever at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
