SYO’s Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SWO), Peter Seymour Orchestra (PSO), Western Sydney Youth Orchestra (WSYO), and Richard Gill Chamber Orchestra (RGCO) are back in Armidale this April for the school holidays!
Over 250 musicians will collaborate with regional guest musicians from across NSW for a 5-day residential Youth Orchestral Camp (YOC), culminating in multiple concerts in Gloucester, Gunnedah, Inverell and a grand finale Showcase in Armidale.

YOC Details
Over 250 young musicians will travel to Armidale, NSW to spend a week working on diverse and challenging repertoire through rehearsals, tutorials, cultural activities and multiple performances in Armidale and surrounding communities.
Regional musicians will join one of SYO’s orchestras for the week and will stay, rehearse and perform alongside SYO musicians, conductors and instrumental tutors. YOC provides a unique opportunity to access high-level orchestral tuition and forge lifelong friendships and musical partnerships with young musicians who share your passion.
Learn with some of the state’s finest conductors, tutors and industry professionals, develop your performance and ensemble skills, and meet like-minded young musicians from right across NSW!

Friday: Orchestras perform in regional centres around Armidale

SYO Musicians
- All camp costs are included in your annual SYO membership fee.
- YOC is a compulsory attendance activity for all musicians in PSO, RGCO, SWO & WSYO.
Regional Musicians
- Full YOC Package - $630 + transaction fee
- Includes training, meals, accommodation and travel, including return coach from Sydney to Armidale (departing Central Station).
- YOC Only Package - $485 + transaction fee
- Includes training, meals, accommodation and travel during camp dates.
- Excludes transport to and from Armidale.
- Non-residential YOC Package - $335 transaction fee
- Includes training, meals, and travel during camp dates.
- Excludes accommodation and transport to and from Armidale.
At SYO, we passionately believe that all young people should have equal access to creative, positive, and rewarding pathways in music. Full and partial Opportunity Scholarships are available for musicians who are experiencing financial barriers to participation in SYO programs. SYO Musicians
- YOC is compulsory for all musicians in PSO, RGCO, SWO & WSYO.
- All camp costs are included in your annual SYO membership fee.
Regional Musicians
- Open to regional musicians only (must live 200km or more from the Sydney CBD)
- Year 7 to Tertiary age in 2024
- AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent and above on an orchestral instrument
- Must have a private instrumental tutor
- Must have some large ensemble experience
All musicians are required to bring their OWN instruments (excluding large percussion instruments)
