Hi! My name is Kate Yau and I play the violin in the Peter Seymour Orchestra. I’m 15 years old in Year 10, currently attending St Patrick’s Marist College, Dundas. I’ve been with SYO since 2019 and have had the amazing opportunities to travel with groups around NSW on regional tours and state tours like the Big West Tour in 2023.
Other than playing the violin, I love sports and will always find myself on volleyball courts or footy fields with my teammates or playing guitar, learning new styles and riffs to play around. Through my 7 year orchestral journey with SYO, I can proudly say it has also brought me nothing but joy and connections with lifelong friends where we all share the same passion for music. As one of SYO’s new advisory council members, I strive to commit myself in ensuring all new or returning players have the same wondrous experience I’ve had. I’m incredibly excited for this new path and hope to grow as both a musician and leader within SYO!!
Sydney Youth Orchestras acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work, rehearse, gather and perform; the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, the original storytellers of these lands where we learn and create music today. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and honour the continuation of the oldest music practice in the world.
