Central West Orchestral Workshops

Sydney Youth Orchestras has a long history of delivering activity across various parts of NSW.  Since 2016, we have focused on the City of Dubbo and establishing the town as SYO’s hub for the Central West, with a 3 year initial commitment.

May Conductors Visit

When: Saturday 19 May, 10:30am – 2:00pm

Workshop Venue: St Johns College, 162 Sheraton Rd, Dubbo East NSW

Cost: Included in June 2 Workshop fee (see below)

Recommended Playing Standard: AMEB Grade 3+ or equivalent

About: This day intensive gives musicians who will be participating in the June Orchestral Workshops the opportunity to get a head start on learning their music and enjoy some extra tuition from conductors James Pensini and Peter Corkill.

This is an optional addition to the June weekend. 

Morning tea/refreshments provided

Music will be available to download before the workshops.

June Orchestral Workshops and Performance

Saturday 2 June, 10:00am-2:00pm with 7:00pm evening performance

Cost: $75.00 per person (includes tuition, SYO merch pack, lunch, dinner and refreshments)

Recommended Playing Standard: AMEB Grade 3+ or equivalent

Concert Time: Saturday 2 June, 7:00pm

Concert Ticket Prices: Adult $25 + booking fee/Concession $15 + booking fee 

About: Joining 120 peers, participants will be given the opportunity to play alongside musicians in the Peter Seymour Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Orchestra. Join the Orchestras and participate in intensive small-group tutorials with the James Pensini and John Ockwell, to prepare for a full scale performance at Dubbo Christian School .

Music will be available to download before the workshops.

Join the Tour Orchestra – For Advanced Students

SYO are providing an exclusive opportunity for select musicians to join the touring orchestras for the full duration of the tour. Participants will become a part of the orchestra, perform on Friday morning for local Dubbo schools, visit Gilgandra or Forbes on the Friday evening, and perform in Dubbo alongside SYO musicians on repertoire that will not be covered in the 1 day workshop on June 2. Participants will eat, sleep and breathe the SYO Tour lifestyle, joining the orchestra on the coach, sharing every meal and staying at the same accommodation for an immersive ensemble experience. 

As this is an intensive orchestral residency model, SYO will accept students that are playing at a Grade 5+ AMEB Grade Minimum Standard or equivalent and above only.

Students must be aged 13 – 21 to participate. 

Program fee: $210.00 per person + booking fees

Program inclusions: Private coach travel from/to nominated pick-up/drop-off points, 3 nights accommodation, all meals, tour hoodie, tuition
