October Newsletter 2017

The October Newsletter is brought to you by SYOs Symphonic Wind Orchestra! SWO will be performing some really fun concerts in Term 4 and would love to see you there. They are playing at Blessed Sacrament Church, Mosman for the Mosman Concert Series on October 22nd, and in Centennial Parklands on November 11th with conductor James Pensini.

SYO Out & About

Auditions started this weekend and continue until the end of the year. We love hearing all the hard work everyone has put into preparing their excerpts and pieces. If you know someone who missed the application deadline, let them know that they can still submit a late application at syo.com.au.

Coming Up at SYO

19 & 21 OCTOBER

Thursday 19 October and Saturday 21 October The Sydney Youth Orchestra join the massed forces of the Festival Chorus and celebrated vocalists Jacqueline Dark, Andrew Goodwin and José Carbo to present Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at Sydney Opera House. Tickets are still available for this monumental performance and can be purchased here. The work is magnificent and rarely performed so this is a great opportunity to hear it live in October.

Does your dog like music? Centennial Park and SYO have teamed up and are presenting a concert for everyone featuring the Symphonic Wind Orchestra. Bring the whole family (even 4-pawed family members) and enjoy the beautiful view over Federation Pavilion. Tickets available via the Centennial Parklands website.

The final concert in SYO’s 2017 Series is The Masterworks, featuring Umberto Clerici, Principal Cello in Sydney Symphony Orchestra playing Dvorak, Cello Concerto in B minor. The concert at Sydney Town Hall will be a spectacular end to a huge year at Sydney Youth Orchestras and we look forward to seeing you there. Tickets available here.

8-12 JANUARY 2018

Registrations for SYO Summer School are now open. In addition to large ensemble playing, masterclasses and tutorials, music theory and info sessions, in 2018 we are also offering an additional HSC Music Prep course for students in year 11 and 12. Summer School will run from Monday 8 January – Friday 12 January 2018 at St Mary’s Cathedral College, Sydney. Register via the SYO website.

All SYO Musicians have access to Idagio, a platform where musicians share their recordings and connect with a growing global classical community, kind of like a Spotify for classical music. We are excited to announce that you can now listen to Sydney Youth Orchestras on Idagio! Login using the code on your musician card and enjoy recordings from our European Tour earlier this year here
