Welcome to June at Sydney Youth Orchestras. Introducing Claudia Norton-Foley, Principal Second Violin for The Sydney Youth Orchestra. Claudia first became involved with SYO through out SYO State Central West Hub before auditioning for The Sydney Youth Orchestra last year.

SYO Out & About

Thursday 31 May – Sunday 3 June

Our Peter Seymour Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra have just returned from a 4-day tour to our SYO State Central West Hub. They performed at Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School; Katoomba High School; Gilgandra High School; Gilgandra Shire Hall with the Coo-ee Choir; Forbes Town Hall with the Forbes Town and District Band; Dubbo Christian School; Cook Park, Orange, and Craigmoor Pavilion, Mudgee. Both orchestras were joined by local musicians for a day of workshops in Dubbo and a lucky few were selected for our ‘Join An Orchestra’ program and toured with our musicians to performances in Forbes and Gilgandra. Thank you to everyone who came along to see our orchestras perform.

Coming Up at SYO

Thursday 7 June


For one-night SYO take over level 28 of the Deutsche Bank Building and create an exciting mini festival under the artistic direction of Umberto Clerici, Principal Cello of Sydney Symphony Orchestra. With exclusive access to the Allen’s Private Australian contemporary art collection, overlooking the vivid festival, regional wines from BackVintage and artisan food, this will be wonderful evening. All funds raised will go towards the SYO’s Opportunity Fund, which supports financial needs scholarships, Western Sydney talent development and regional outreach programs. Providing opportunities to all young musicians regardless of financial or geographical circumstances.

Saturday 16 June

We are pleased to announce the release of our 2017 Annual Report. Your electronic version is available for download here.  Notice is given that the annual general meeting of members will be held on Saturday 16 June 2018 at Santa Sabina College, Strathfield at 10am. We hope you will join us on the day. Should you be unable to attend the meeting but wish to vote, a proxy form is available.

Friday 22 June

SYO Philharmonic’s annual concert in Eugene Goossens Hall at the ABC Studios is coming up on Friday 22 June. European Winter will feature some fantastic music from the classical canon, including Ravel’s Bolero and Sibelius Symphony No. 2. SYO musicians can use their Musician ID to redeem a $15 ticket to this concert. Book now to avoid disappointment. Hear more.


Saturday 23 June

The Winter Showcase is on Saturday 23 June. There are three concerts, at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm at Monte Sant Angelo College. These concerts are the perfect opportunity to come and see what SYO is all about. If you’re not sure which concert you are performing in, please check the SYO website.

The Metropolitan Orchestra – Sumptuous Strings Of TMO With One Of Australia’s Finest Voices

On June 9th, The Metropolitan Orchestra with Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Sarah-Grace Williams return to the enchanting Independent Theatre for a musical evening with a difference. TMO will start the performance with Josef Suk’s sublime Serenade for strings. They will then be joined by outstanding Australian tenor Daniel Belle for the second half of this gala concert  which will include some of the greatest arias from Opera and Music Theatre.

Australian Youth Orchestra
