SYO Philharmonic 1920x300

July Newsletter 2017

We hope everyone has been enjoying a well-earned break over the school holidays but everyone here at SYO is excited to get back into Term 3 rehearsals, which start on Saturday 22 July. Term 2 wrapped up with a couple of great concerts by our senior orchestras and a big farewell to Nick Munro, our outgoing Symphonic Orchestral Program Coordinator. Katie Garman is now Operations Coordinator for the Symphonic Orchestral Program and new hire Angus Davison is looking after our SYO Strings Program.

Last month the Peter Seymour Orchestra performed at City Recital Hall for the second concert in The Engine Room lunchtime concert series. Under the direction of conductor John Ockwell, PSO delighted audiences with Beethoven’s  Symphony No. 1 and Mozart’s  Symphony No. 31.

Also in June, SYO Philharmonic and conductor Brian Buggy brought the music of Broadway to life to mark the centenary of one of the greatest composers and conductors of the 21st century, Leonard Bernstein in the second concert in their 2017 series, SYO Goes To Broadway. You can find a review of the concert written by one of our musicians here!

On Friday 14 July, our Western Sydney Youth Orchestra will be performing in three Meet The Orchestra concerts at the Way Out West festival at Casula Powerhouse. Tickets available NOW

The first weekend of August will feature two performances of Ambition & Virtuosity, the second concert in The Sydney Youth Orchestra’s 2017 concert series, in Sydney Town Hall on August 5th and Wollongong Town Hall on August 6th. The concert, conducted by Alex Briger AO, will feature SYO alumna and violinist in the London Symphony Orchestra Naoko Keatley performing Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Tickets available now.

2018 auditions applications are opening soon! Keep your eyes peeled on Monday 24 July for a link to the application form. If you know someone who might be interested in auditioning for SYO, grab a brochure and some flyers at the start of Term 3.
