Sydney Youth Orchestras May Video Newsletter

May Newsletter 2017

Welcome to our May Video Newsletter. The action never stops here at Sydney Youth Orchestras. With thirteen different ensembles, there is always something happening.

During April our senior musicians travelled to Europe on our landmark education tour -exploring Vienna, Budapest, Salzburg, Prague and Berlin. A lucky few of our senior string players also went to Copenhagen to perform with the Danish Duen Ensemble. Thank you to everyone who made this tour possible. Check out our video postcards and musician blogs HERE.

While our Tour Orchestra was away, some of our other senior musicians and alumni performed with Canadian rock band The Tea Party to a packed out venue at The Star, Sydney.

At the start of May, our Peter Seymour Orchestra ventured over the bridge to Mosman Art Gallery for a morning of music making with families for our Meet The Orchestra concert. Conductor John Ockwell had families singing, dancing and trying out new instruments.

Also, our Stage 3 string ensembles, the Brahms Ensemble and the Greig Ensemble performed in the foyer of the Sydney Opera House as pre-show entertainment for Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ presentation of Rossini’s Stabat Mater.

On Saturday May 13 our strings players perform at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta with the Simon Bolivar String Quartet. This is the Quartet’s only Sydney Performance. We are so excited to learn from Venezuela’s best instrumentalists.

Registrations for our SYO State Central West program close on Monday May 15 before our first day of workshops on Saturday May 20. We are excited to be expanding our program this year with three trips to Central West NSW over 2017.

Live at Level 28 is our new cocktail-style fundraising event. You will have an opportunity to explore the art collection at Allens Linklaters, enjoy the panoramic views over the city, and listen to a range of musical performances, while enjoying lots of delicious food and drinks, all in support of SYO’s Opportunity Now Campaign. A night not to be missed. Secure your tickets HERE.
