2018 SYO State Central West Tour Recap
From Thursday 31 May to 3 June the Peter Seymour Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra toured to Central West NSW. Over four days they performed at Nepean Performing arts High School, Katoomba High School, Gilgandra High School, Dubbo Christian College, Gilgandra Shire Hall, Forbes Town Hall, Cook Park Orange, and Craigmoor Pavilion Mudgee. On Saturday 2 June we were joined by 30 young musicians from the Central West region for workshops and a performance at Dubbo Christian School. A lucky five musicians also joined us for our Join An Orchestra program and experienced life on your with an orchestra for the weekend.

Last week SWO and PSO made their way around the Central West to share our love of music. Whilst the travel was strenuous and the bus rides were tiring, the memories we formed will stay with us for life, as well as the phenomenal friendships we have made.
We are so thankful we were lucky enough to have this wonderful tour! And to meet all the fabulous people who were kind enough to offer their hospitality throughout the trip, it was so nice to get to know the people living out there, and to hear about their stories.

It was an absolutely sensational experience, from forming new friendships, to improving technique, extending our abilities and becoming better at working as a team. It was so nice to have Dubbo players join us too, as we feel so privileged to be a part of SYO and to allow them to have the experience which we have every week was pretty cool. We all aware that music is the universal language of man- and it was a perfect example of uniting people from different backgrounds and cities together, whilst doing something they love. There is a certain feeling you get playing with the amazing kids from the Central West; you know how much they’re loving it and that is why there is nothing else which compares for them.
I’ve (Isabeau) always particularly loved the regional tours. I remember when SYO came to my hometown a few years ago, I loved it so much that I joined that same year! So for me, seeing the regional students who joined us have that same experience was absolutely priceless and I hope we see some of them around Sydney soon! Whilst there were SO MANY HIGHLIGHTS on tour, our favourite part would have to be seeing everyone’s faces light up after the last performance in Mudgee- we could tell our hours of rehearsing had paid off and the joy was evident in everyone's massive smiles. We loved it, and thank SYO for allowing us to participate in this amazing opportunity!
Molly Noble-Booth plays violin and joined the Peter Seymour Orchestra after participating in SYO Summer School 2018. Isabeau Hansen recently relocated from Albury to Sydney to study at Sydney Conservatorium High School and now plays flute with the Peter Seymour Orchestra.

It was the best 4 days I’ve had in a long time touring with the SYO to Regional NSW. We met so many new people who want to play good music and it was amazing to be able to help the regional musicians and to encourage them to continue playing great music. I had loads of fun with friends old and new. I also loved performing at all the great regional venues. I can’t wait to do it all again.
Sean Walsh is 13 years old and plays Baritone Saxophone in the Symphonic Wind Orchestra.
