SYO Out & About

Wednesday 18 July

In July WSYO played two sold-out performances at Casula Powerhouse’s Way Out West Children’s Festival.The WOW Festival believes that the arts should be FOR children as well as BY children. This year at the WOW Festival, children and young people take over the art centre as they share their stories and ideas about the world they live in. #wowcasula2018

WSYO will be performing more Meet The Orchestra concerts at Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub and Australian Botanic Garden Mt Annan on Saturday 1 September. Get your tickets before they sell out!

Welcome to Christopher Lawrence

The SYO Board of Directors is delighted to appoint Christopher Lawrence to the new role of SYO Chief Artistic Advisor to work alongside Chief Conductor, Alexander Briger AO, and General Manager, Mia Patoulios to further develop the artistic offering to our players and audiences. We are thrilled to welcome him to team.

Wednesday 1 August

2019 Audition Applications opened on Wednesday 1 August. We have had a huge number of applications already. The earlier you apply, the longer you have to prepare your excerpts. Current SYO members should access their applications via the personalised email sent 1 August to ensure you redeem the special member $10 discount. Saturday 11 August

Tickets are now on sale to The Sydney Youth Orchestra’s performance of Bruckner Symphony No. 8 on Saturday 11 August at Verbrugghen Hall. Bruckner 8 is considered by many to be Bruckner’s crowning achievement, so book your ticket to experience  this grand masterpiece of the orchestral repertoire now. Don’t forget, SYO Musicians can use their Musician ID to redeem a $15 ticket.

Sunday 19 August

John Ockwell and the Peter Seymour Orchestra have more Meet The Orchestra concerts coming up at Leichhardt Town Hall on Sunday 19 August. After sold-out concerts in Mosman earlier this year, book early to avoid disappointment.

Sunday 26 August

In preparation for their concert series with Sydney City Youth Ballet in September, SYO Philharmonic are presenting a concert for Mosman Concert Series at Blessed Sacrament Church on Sunday 26 August. Tickets are available at the door and there is a discount for SYO family members.

MET Concert 4 – Fever

On August 25th, The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO), led by Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Sarah-Grace Williams, will perform their much anticipated 2018 All-Russian program. Titled Fever, this TMO tradition dedicated to the composers of Russia will feature renowned pianist Tamara-Anna Cislowska as soloist for Shostakovich’s cheerful Piano Concerto no 2.  The feverish evening of Eastern European music also includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s lively Capriccio Espagnol and Rachmaninoff’s exuberant Symphonic Dances.  Book here.

GENEXT GOES WEST is a free, all-access, festival-style event that is strictly for young people aged 12–18 years, programmed by young people, for young people. On 25 August CPAC Youth are partnering with the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Youth Committee to present an evening full of all the things you love most about GENEXT, the MCA’s flagship event for young people – live music, artist-run workshops, social activities and delicious snacks – in a celebration of the best of the west.
