SYO State – Dubbo June 2-4 2017

MUSICIAN BLOGS

From the 2nd to the 4th of June the Peter Seymour Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra embarked to the Central West of NSW in buses powered by singing youth. We performed concerts at Dubbo at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre, and in Forbes magnificent town hall. We participated in workshops and concerts with local musicians to share our passion for music. In our spare time we had a night of entertaining karaoke and an afternoon expending our energy on bikes at Dubbo zoo. We travelled home tired yet willing to turn around and do it all again next year.

Joshua Reynolds – Joshua is a clarinettist and the concertmaster for the Symphonic Wind Orchestra. He travels 4 hours each way from Taree on the Mid North Coast to Sydney for rehearsals.

From the 2nd to the 4th of June, the PSO and the SWO went on a tour to Dubbo. It was a great opportunity and I’m sure that all of us had a great time. During the tour, we performed most of our repertoire and did some hard core rehearsals for the three days that we were away. We also went to Dubbo Zoo, Gilgandra Shire Hall to perform with the Coo-ee Choir and the Dubbo Regional and Convention Centre. Some highlights of the trip were the karaoke night and travelling for more than 5 hours on a bus. We had the chance to play with the local musicians and the emerging artists which was great because we were able to make new relationships. The also tour enabled us to bond furthermore with the people in our orchestra and have heaps of fun however I’m sure that our conductor John Ockwell was sick of us all by the end of the trip. I’m really grateful for the staff, conductors and parent volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort into this amazing trip, without them none of it would have been possible.

Lara Albany – Lara is a double bass player in the Peter Seymour Orchestra. She began playing double bass at the age of 9 and is now one of the youngest members of PSO at the age of 12.
