Position: OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Sydney Youth Orchestras is seeking an Operations Manager to run its programme of orchestral tuition, rehearsals, concerts, tours and other activities so as to ensure the timely, efficient and transparent functioning of the SYO’s activities. SYO is an organisation which relies on goodwill and support across its wide stakeholder base; and the Operations Manager needs to be not only highly organised but also able to cultivate and maintain productive relations with our members, parents, volunteers and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Rehearsal and performance venue bookings
- Production and stage management of concerts and events
- Organising regional tours, residential camps and run-out concerts
- Organising transport, freight and handling for rehearsals, performances and tours.
- Booking tutors, roadies and other casual assistance.
- Managing the ordering, processing and distribution of music for the orchestras
- Organisation and management of auditions and membership offers.
- Co-ordination and management of requests for the hire of the orchestra or ensembles from the orchestra.
- Control the registration, hire and borrowing of instruments.
- Co-ordinating, scheduling and briefing of volunteers.
- Actively managing the operations budget, including timely and accurate reporting of timesheets, costs and accruals.
- Ensuring OH&S and Duty of Care compliance in all SYO activities
- Ensuring productive and positive relations with our members, parents and volunteers; and with venues, arts organisations and other major stakeholders.

- Preferably have prior experience with an orchestra or performing arts organisation
- Have strong MS Office skills, especially with MS Excel
- Experience with database administration and preferably also experience with MYOB.
- Have a knowledge of, commitment to and an ability to foster appropriate OH&S attitudes.
- Be able to work flexible hours.
- Be able to work well with children, young people and parents.
This position reports to the CEO and works closely with the Business Manager. It has the Orchestra Services Manager position as its direct report.
The successful applicant will need a current valid manual drivers licence. A licence for larger vehicles is an advantage. Holding this position legally requires the successful completion of a working with children check. A current first aid certificate is highly desirable. Some heavy lifting is required.
